It’s that time of year again where we put our feet up by the fire, have a whisky or three and take a little look back over 2012 and also let you know what we’ve got up our sleeves for 2013.
You may not have seen or heard a great deal from us over the past 12 months, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been a hive of industry. It’s been quite a hectic year spent in the rehearsal rooms and studio, some choice live dates, a little bit of moonlighting, and on top of that some of us have made a start on creating the Broken Records Junior Team!
We spent a lot of the year writing and recording some new songs at our Edinburgh base. While we’ve not done any extensive touring, every show we’ve done this year has been very special and a great chance to try out some of the new songs live. As well as some low-key shows in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh to keep our hand in, we also fulfilled our life-long ambition to play with an Orchestra as part of a collaboration with Edinburgh’s Tinderbox Orchestra at the Queens Hall. If you weren’t there,
here’s a little taster of what you missed (warning – even more Epic than usual!) , and a
track from the night itself . We also made our debut performance in Stirling (which is pretty shameful of us for taking 6 years to manage it), then we rounded off the year with the lovely guys from Efterklang by playing an incredible show at the Ars Cameralis festival in Katowice, Poland.
We also found time for a spot of moonlighting. Jamie did some solo shows. Rory did some solo shows too and provided some of his violin magic to various other projects. Craig played with his other band Easy Tigers. And Ian and Andy went completely off-piste to become part of a bawdy Cabaret band during the Edinburgh festival making their
live BBC Radio 1 debut in the process!
We also have a few line-up changes to announce. Unfortunately Dave has left us, playing his last show with the band in November. He’ll be greatly missed, but he’s found love and moved to America so we’re delighted for him! In any case no-one ever really gets to leave so I’m sure it’s not the last we’ll see of him. With that in mind we’re also delighted that Gill has come back and joined us for a few shows at the end of this year.
Happy New Year!
