November 2008 Archives

Recently, Broken Records played a show at The Macbeth in London as part of the 'Levi's 5 Night Revue'.  The entire week of gigs was filmed for Channel 4, and aired as individual shows featuring the headline bands of each night.  We've now got hold of the full programme (originally aired in October) and can now be found exclusively on our youtube page and the media page on this site.  Unfortunately, the programme doesn't quite convey how cramped it was on that stage, nor does it feature any footage of the 'off the stage, through the crowd, then back-up the other side of the stage' Piano swapping routine.

Enjoy!

In the BBC website's festival coverage of the much-enjoyed Swn festival, Broken Records were featured in the top 10 bands of the festival:

"Edinburgh's waist-coated gents Broken Records are only a handful of brilliant singles old - Slow Parade the best of those. But like Arcade Fire, this gang look like they've been together forever such is their ferocious cohesiveness. Their Celtic broth of accordion, keys and Killers-esque vocals threaten to lift the dingy roof off Barfly."

Despite being a quieter month than the previous couple, we have still had a few forays away to new parts, with last weekend being our first gig in Wales. Shocking, I know, that it has taken us nearly two years to get there, but we finally made it. We were playing at Cardiff Barfly as part of the Huw Stephens-curated Swn festival, which follows a similar format to the Great Escape in Brighton, with a whole load of venues putting on three or four bands each night and you run around town trying to see as much as you can.
Just a quick note to let you know we're currently recording a new yet-to-be-titled EP for sale exclusively at gigs and via the website (all things going to plan).  It's quite different from our current EP with a more acoustic/'stripped back' feel and should be available in a couple of weeks. Check this space for further updates.

Tour Diary - 13th Nov

So, the last few weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride all round. We were due to be on tour with Okkervil River at this very minute, but it appears that the ubiquitous Credit Crunch Of Doom has even caught up with the already iceberg-gashed Titanic of the music industry, and, to cut a long story short (and avoid a minestrone of metaphor), taken our touring budget to the bottom of the North Atlantic along with Iceland's entire economy. Boooo.

Good news!  We found out yesterday that 'Lies' entered the Indie Singles chart at number 7.  Thanks to everyone who purchased the single last week.  The full chart rundown can be found here
